Up until about a year ago I had never heard the term "miniature Labrador Retriever”, I was intrigued and wanted to know more so I started to do research on the net. I found sites that told of this animal, it gave standards that had to be adhered to in order for registration and told of American Kennel Club sanctioned shows at which this dog could be shown. I looked a bit further only to find other sites that claimed that there was no such breed.
I decided to do what I should have done to start off with and contacted the AKC. Their reply was no, there is no such breed category, they further explained that for such a category to be established it would need to be initiated by the Labrador Retriever Club inc. who are the controlling body for Labrador Retrievers in America, and sent to the AKC for approval. So just to be sure, I contacted the Labrador club only for them to confirm that there really was no such official breed. I know that this is pushing this a bit far, but I also contacted the UK Kennel Club, and they had also never heard of this breed.

So sadly it would seem that this dog just doesn’t exist. There are however dogs in any large breed that just do not make the minimum height requirement for that breed, I suppose that this would qualify these dogs as miniature. I can fully understand the need or rather the desire for a miniature version of the lab. This dog makes a truly wonderful pet, and if you just do not have a lot of space where you live, this dog would be ideal.
It could be possible that some unscrupulous breeder is trying to create such a breed for the profit that it will undoubtedly generate. Just be aware that if you are offered this dog, it probably is just the runt of the litter, and you should not be paying extra for a "special” breed. I am by no means saying do not buy the dog as it will probably be a wonderful pet, any Lab is in my book, big or small. And what you pay for it is entirely up to you, if you feel that what is being asked is a fair price, pay it. Remember anything is only worth what you are willing to pay for it no more no less.
